I think if you can extend the budget a bit as20,000 you can acquire a basic laptop which has graphics card from Acer or Asus. It will be more as compared to sufficient for regular moderate home apply. If you need to stick on 18,000 budget, as well then you may lay hands on a laptop or a good netbook. This may interest you.
I think a tab will be sufficient and comfortable for browsing and movies...
As it is for his mother, she may not detect typing in touch screen favorable. But if fine with that, tablet is a very good suggestion and you can acquire Android tabs about 10,000 without trouble. But again you require to acquire familiar on Android.
Yeah wizard, you are perfectly right, she would not be very comfortable on the touch typing on the tablet, and she needs a netbook/laptop
Considerable few people as exploring new things... Thus a android tablet may only be good for her and it will be comfortable to use it anyplace..... But anyway its better to ask her earlier deciding to purchase one...
Asked her already, she either wants an apple ipad or a netbook/laptop. She actually does not experience anything about configurations etc, I afforded her my ipod touch in hand and asked her to type and was she comfortable on the typing cause an ipad would be identical but a little more comfortable in sense of the spacing of keys, she said, no, I need a netbook/laptop, she holds altering her mind and can not decide between ipad and netbook, she is as a kid , she is ready to spend more for an ipad, but if its a netbook she buys, then it should be under 18,000. I guess I will create her settle for a netbook from above.
The Asus one does not come with windows 7 preinstalled and Acer has windows starter which is not of much use really and hence the cost difference... Asus is cheap and has dos...you can install Linux or windows as per your choice.
Windows starter is ok if you do not need high end characteristics but normal browsing and video, mp3 playback. The main characteristics I look missing in starter is making netbook a hotspot and Aero effect which consumes good portion of graphics memory. I use Ubuntu and if you use classic gnome it is more or less like XP. Firefox, Google Chrome and VLC player works alright like in Windows. WINE lets you to setup common Windows programs in Ubuntu and make you look only as Windows. Few people select Linux like OS due to considerable difference in cost.
