Thread: Can not rename user profile

I require to change a user profile witha server 2008 file server. Logged in like Domain Admin, and as welllater like local admin. Tried to change the [username].v2 folder,merely "You do not have approval..." message arrives up. Ican rename other user profile folders. It seems as the folder hasbeen locked, because of being in use, but I have logged the user out. Any ideas?

There are a number of dissimilar modes that will work. What is the aim of renaming the profile?

I think the trouble is one of ownership. Last network I did work with was not drove down like in tight manner this one, and Admin could rename the profile without taking ownership. The User can not save to his profile. Next chance is tomorrow, therefore I will have another tilt then.

It will be an ownership trouble. You do not have the security permissions to modify the name of the profile folder. You can either bring ownership of the profile or log in like that user and make the modification from there. I am assuming its a Windows 7 machine in a 2003 Environment?

It is Windows 7 in 2008 environment. I will be attempting your advice tomorrow, and will post to confirm success. This is my first time administrating a network alone, therefore loving the challenge, but acquiring brain-tired!

Its sometimes a trouble when installing Windows 7 onto a 2003 domain. I had it a little although ago, the profile has already been made (.v2) but was corrupt. I merely renamed as well then it recreated itself. If you are purely responsible for the network, merely remember to have a good backup only in case of any future problems/major modifications.
