Since you travel a lot, we would recommend you get an additional battery as well, which can be a 9 cell to give you maximum additional battery life. This will give you a lot of peace of mind when you are on the road, and need to be connected. However, if you don't want to spend that much, there is also a lot you can do with the existing battery to extract the extra juice from it.
Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when on the road and not connected to the Internet. Otherwise the wireless module keeps searching for wireless access points and drains the battery.
Reduce the screen brightness. This will not only reduce strain on your eyes, but also the load on the battery. In most cases, reducing the brightness levels to 50% improves the battery life and also does not affect visibility. You can also use power saving modes if present.
Condition the battery. When you purchase a new battery, drain it completely for the first 3 cycles, before charging it fully. This is called conditioning. The battery will last longer once it has the ability to hold the charge completely.
Don't play CD/DVD. Load the contents on the hard drive before accessing them. A constantly spinning optical drive drains battery power. These few basic steps will help you get a few extra minutes out of the battery.
