    Default Power adapter gets warm

Hi everyone, I have query about my laptop. I have a 5 yr old Dell Inspiron XPS gaming laptop that has actually not provided me any troubles. It utilizes the 150 Watt power adapter. The difficulty I'm encountering is the power adapter obtains actually hot when I employ one of the USB HDs from long time. Can anyone recommend a fix besides disconnecting the HD and allowing it cool off?

    Any help would be appreciable!

Fine the perfect result is to purchase a larger power adapter (more wattage). That should motive less strain to its components be more competent and much cooler. Discuss with your local electronics shop for a suitable adapter.

The result would be to purchase an external power adapter for the HD (if it believes one). Hence all its power necessities will be supplied by a different source leaving your 150W adapter only (and cool).

Thank you for your recommendations. However, I don't believe they still build a superior adapter. Finding the 150 watt substitute wasn't simple. Many and many of smaller wattage ones obtainable though and they're the ones that illustrate doing a search.

Both USB drives I utilize have their possess power source (wall plug-ins), except you're referring to something dissimilar. I don't employ them at the similar time either.

Thanks again for your assist. I be thankful for it.

150W is a huge quantity for an external AC/DC adapter. My Sager has a 120W design. It obtains scorching when I game on it but I oppose with some old heatsinks (one Athlon 64 and one Athlon XP, sitting on top). They cool it quite fine. If you desire you can also throw a fan on top, it wouldn't be hard to rig with another 12V power supply you may have placing around from some broken electronic part.

When I prepared my Dell I just thought they'd send what I required and the 150 watt came. That one lasted until quite over a year before. I ordered a new one from Dell, thinking the old one was just that! OLD and it only lasted a year. That's when I actually began paying attention to the heat arriving off the brick. My Dell has 3 internal fans which may be the other cause of superior draw on the adapter and the cause such a big adapter was desirable. I recognize there are no heat sinks around here but I'll confirm to obtain some and try them out together with a fan.
Thank you for your assist. It's genuinely respected.

Do not actually fret about the brick receiving too hot as they are intended to get there and organize within features. Remember that I would only trust a BRANDED power brick in such situation.
So my final suggestion if you cannot deal with a heatsink-fan on the brick would be to just search a cold surface (aluminium plate or a cold bench or something) and sit the brick on it. The surface should sufficiently remove sufficient heat. Remember to maintain the flat (big) surface of the brick in contact with the surface below. The higher the touching surface the higher your heat removal will be.

Good luck and don't stress too much about it.
