When I acquire it, hopefully this friday, is there a way Ican move the Myst game I am playing having the stored condition ofwhere I am in the game to my novel iPhone. I will have to afford rearthe 3G when I acquire the 3GS thus I will have to wipe my shove offon thursday evening. I am not actual far in the game, but hate tohave to begin above if there is a way to ignore that.

The state of your Myst game is saved in the support that iTunes produces when synchronizing, thus be certain to produce a support of your old iPhone earlier you return it. I do not experience if it is possible to restore a support created by an iPhone 3G to an iPhone 3GS, but seemingly that was possible among the original iPhone and the 3G, thus it might do work. If not, it may be possible to manually transplant the individual files from the old support into a novel one, but that is only speculation and it would may be involve few low-level hackers.

It could be done with jail breaking, but I view that a bit more as compared to low level hackery. Anyhow, you should be capable to "transfer" your files simply by supporting your iPhone earlier returning it, as that connection says. Once you acquire the novel one plug it in.

You should be capable to restore the novel iPhone with your old data. Apple does expect people to purchase these novel ones, also if they have old ones, thus it should work. It could not hurt to call up a local Apple store, or AT&T, and ask them about it to be sure. iPhone 3G S... lucky... I am jealous.

You are challenging me, Cubkyle... I have had a closer feel at my supports and at this bit of documentation today, and though I do not expect to attempt it right now, I have the impression that this should even work on a non - jailbroken phone. Why perfectly would a jailbreak be needed?

Well, with that tool, you can just pull out data, but not keep it rear in later. Whatever application data you keep out would become useless to you. The way I was saying about, Jailbreaking, would need jailbreaking the device, and then applying SSH to link to the device to gain access to the file system. You could then support the application's save data from the installation folder to your computer. Once you acquires a different device, you had have to set up Myst, jailbreak the device again, and then keep the save data rear where it was.

That way is a much more work than easily applying the support restore characteristic of iTunes, and the jailbreak is semi-permanent. If you do not require or expect a jailbreak the method is undesirable. I say that I do not view it low level hackery because I think that jailbreaking is pretty large hacking, and then you have to set up ahead software for accessing the file system, as the SSH software.

You might be capable to apply the support slurper to acquire the save data out, and then restore it applying the jailbreak, but it is not something I have seemed into, and it is however overkill next to applying the iTunes support and restore.

Basically you plug in your 3G iPhone, right click it in the device pane and select Backup. Then you unplug the old phone, plug in the iPhone 3GS. iTunes will ask if you expect to restore from a support, choose the support of your 3G and you were done. No requirement to switch SIM cards as you had to to go from the EDGE iPhone to the 3G.

That does not answer my question. You are explaining why a jailbreak is sufficient to acquire modified files onto the iPhone, not why it is essentially. Until I watch any evidence to the contrary, I will stick to my conjecture that it is possible to restore a modified support applying iTunes, no jailbreak required.

Yeah. I was not telling you required to do it that way. I was only explaining that it was one method it could be done "hacking", since you referred it. Albeit a completely round-about and unnecessary method because of how simple it is by applying the support and restore. I might be mistaken, but I am fairly certain you can not change a support. Or not do it and have it restore again, at any rate.

You can't edit the restore, and you can not do a partial restore, it's a all or nothing when restoring your new iPhone or iTouch with your old iPhone or iTouch restore file.

For personal peace of mind make sure you sync your new one thus if your actually worried you can restore it rear again afterward. Bear in mind that it does not alter the firmware a restore with a iphone or itouch only restores the application software, contacts, menu settings, photos, save games, etc..... It can not break anything essential to running the device Apple does not afford itunes that much power.

Synced or restored my novel one day one to my old phone and began playing channel wood right where I had left off.

Please, Hardest part is removing everything the old crud you would have never moved from your old phone to your novel phone. If you have two Apple devices iphone or itouch and you however apply both, remember to rename your novel one as the restore renames it with your old ones name.
