Thread: Why won't my Toshiba laptop keep a charge?

I have a Toshiba satellite laptop computer and it is about 4 years old. I have never replaced the battery or anything else. The problem is when I plug the ac adapter into the computer, the charging light does not light up. I left it in for about a day and still when I tried to power it up, it died in a fraction of a second. I took out the battery with the adapter still plugged in and tried to power on but this time it didn't even startup at all. I did it vice versa and it did start up but died in less than a second. I am going to bring it in but I am hoping someone has some good info for me and can tell me whether it needs something simple like a new battery or needs serious work.IT is a Toshiba Satellite M35X

I might say bad battery, but it should work when plugged in. Maybe it is time for a new laptop.

probably needs a new battery. i have a toshiba too and it's a little over a year and the battery doesn't work anymore.

Sounds like one of two things.First could be the AC adapter is bad. Simple replacement is all you need. See if you know someone who has the same laptop as you, borrow their adapter and test.If it's not the adapter the next issue could be the motherboard. In this case, it would be better to buy a new laptop. MB replacements are pricey if the system is not under any kind of protection plan.

Me and my sister have the same type of computer.(Toshiba Satellite A100-ST3211) well NOT exact.but i still can help you :D I Haven't have battery problems yet..but my sister has.. and well we realized that it wasnt the battery in the computer it was the charger. You should buy another charger the same exact SAME one (they are around $100) It may not be the battery in the computer. it may be the charger. i recommend you to get a new charger for your computer. well good luck.Hope i helped(:
